I love to “adulterate” old cabinet cards. Using white color pencils and India ink, I alter the cards to create these spooky little vignettes. Perfect for an October show! This one is titled,
“Imaginary Friends.”
My work since the Covid lockdown has explored my frustration and confusion with organized religion. The promise of spiritual nurture and sanctuary balanced against the doctrine of self righteous exclusion and ruthless control. The contract of surrendering free will to faith, with the unprecedented promise of eternal life - a “reward” only attainable after death. As deeply disturbing as I find these myths and effects, when laid out on paper there slips across the surface an undeniable humor born of the ridiculousness of the premise. Perhaps this is why I continue to be compelled to explore the Celestial Scapegoat.

Sketching and drawing is a practice. A practice of exploration, of curiosity, of playfulness!
“Tale of 3 Lemons” Color pencil, acrylic paint, metal foil, clay, map of Lebanon, on wood. My depiction of the Lebanese folktale “Tale of 3 Lemons.” The prince on a quest for a bride, the 3 maidens trapped in the lemons, the breaking of the enchantments, and of course, the ‘happily ever after!’
“Sssssssssanctimony” Why is “Crone” a pejorative? She is the culmination of a lifetime of experience. She knows that “god” did not create woman from a man’s rib, but that women create life from their own wombs. She knows that eating from the tree of knowledge is the purpose of life. She knows there is no such thing as an “illegitimate” child. She knows that mercy, kindness and compassion are not weaknesses, but are drawn from reservoirs of great strength. She knows. In a culture built upon lies, a culture that values and rewards avarice and power above all else; her knowledge is dangerous.

“Caga Tió” my original piece for my 2024 Christmas Card. Color pencil and henna paste on a map of Spain. It is traditional in Spain to bring the Yule log inside on December 1st, cover it with a blanket and care for it. On Christmas, the children will beat it with sticks, sing to it, and it will poop out nougat candies!

“Frankenflower Kitty” a dry point print that I created for another Division 9 Gallery demonstration earlier this year.
“Madonna at the Gate of Dawn” will be showing at the Antelope Valley College “Old Broads” show. It’s an excellent opportunity to see her in person, as she doesn’t get out much.

I’m thrilled to announce my solo show at Studio C Gallery in Claremont, CA! “I Feel It in My Bones” is a compilation of my works on paper, including pieces from my Cathedral Window series. The opening reception is on Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 6:00 - 9:00pm, during Claremont’s monthly Art Walk. It will be very festive, with the galleries open, restaurants and bars, so there will be lots to see and do!
